Svein A. Fosså is a Norwegian zoologist and internationally recognised expert on sustainability, conservation and animal welfare in the pet and ornamental aquatic trade. For more than three decades, he has worked at the intersection of trade, science and policy, advising industry organisations in Norway and internationally on ethical sourcing, sustainable use, invasive alien species and regulatory frameworks.

He serves as President of the European Pet Organization (EPO), Vice President of Ornamental Fish International (OFI), Chairman of the Norwegian Pet Trade Association (NZB), and Editor-in-Chief of the trade magazine PetScandinavia. He has participated in numerous CITES Conferences of the Parties and FAO expert panels concerning commercially exploited aquatic species. Fosså has also contributed to European Commission projects on invasive alien species and has long been engaged in certification initiatives and the development of responsible trade standards. Through extensive lecturing, publications and policy work, he advocates science-based, proportionate regulation that safeguards biodiversity while recognising the social and economic value of responsible pet keeping.
